The Lee Plug : The Lee Plug is a cylindrical plug with a tapered hole part way through its centre and numerous small grooves on its outside diameter. It is slipped into a reamed counterbore in the product. A tapered pin is then driven into the plug until the ends of the pin and the plug are flush with each other. Controlled expansion causes the lands and grooves of the plug to "bite" into the surrounding material forming independent seals and retaining rings. Result: a positive, reliable, leak and trouble-proof seal for both liquids and gases. This simple principle opens the way to vast improvements in design and manufacture of all fluid devices. The Lee Plug is simply the most successful method to seal drilled holes for critical applications. Over 100 million are in use on aircraft, missiles, spacecraft, machine tools, down hole oil tools, molds - anything that requires a permanent leak-proof seal.

Lee Restrictors : Lee Company restrictors have become the accepted “standards” worldwide. Design engineers find their small size, light weight, and proven reliability are indispensable when the flow of fluids has to be controlled.

Our miniature precision flow restrictors are specified by manufacturers of aircraft hydraulic and fuel control systems, oil drilling equipment, missile controls, machine tools, and countless other products. Lee restrictors are a vital part of almost every military and commercial aircraft manufactured in the world. By employing already proven and qualified Lee restrictors in their designs, design engineers are using their own time and talents much more productively.

Lee offers a wide selection of single-stage or multi-stage orifices. Lee Jets, High Watt and Kilowatt Jets, and the Lee Microjet are all single orifice restrictors. Lee High Watt and Kilowatt Jets handle low Lohm rates (high flow rates) while higher Lohm rates (lower flow rates) are covered by Lee Jets. The multi-orifice restrictors consist of Bender Jets and many different versions of the Visco Jet. Bender Jets employ several non-coaxial orifices in series using bending and multiple orifices to increase restriction. The Visco Jet adds the dimension of spin chambers for even higher restriction. Lee Restrictor Check :- Lee Restrictor Cheks are miniature inserts available in metered Lohm rates from 1000 to 10,000 Lohms, and are screened to protect the orifice. Flow through the orifice creates pressure drop across the ball which moves it completely away from the seat. This unique design eliminates silting problems which occur whenever a restrictor is used in series with a check valve. Lee Restrictor Cheks maintain large minimum passageways for reliable performance.Lee Restrictor Cheks are used wherever a metered Lohm rate is needed in one direction and no flow in the other. They are often used in lines that flow during operation and trap fluid upstream upon shutdown.

Lee Directional Flow Control : Lee Directional Flow Controls come in four different free flow Lohm rates to provide the designer with the optimum size insert. In addition, there are two sizes of High Pressure Directional Flow Controls. The Lee Directional Flow Control utilizes the full pressure drop across the restrictor to lift the moving element completely away from the seat in the free flow direction. When required, screens provide further protection from contamination in both flow directions.
Directional Flow controls are ideal for timing applications where metering on the outlet in both flow directions is essential. As shown in the diagram above, the two flow controls maintain high back pressure when the actuator is moving in either direction, thus preventing cavitation.

Lee FLOSERTS : Lee Floserts are pressure compensated flow controls which provide a constant flow over a wide range of pressure drop across the insert. The Flosert operates by sensing the flow rate in terms of a differential pressure across a fixed orifice. A variable metering orifice automatically adjusts to keep this pressure, and hence the flow rate constant. Thirteen flow rates from 0.1 to 1.0 GPM in a 0.281 inch diameter body (model 2), and eight flow rates from 1.5 to 5.0 GPM in a 0.500 inch diameter body (model 1) are available.
Floserts are useful for controlling the velocity of an actuator under varying loads. They can increase the stiffness of a hydrostatic bearing or limit the maximum flow rate to control the speed of a pump or motor. More than one Flosert will ratio flow or synchronise several jacks regardless of loads.

Lee Nozzle : The Lee Company offers two types of miniature precision nozzles: the Spin Jet and the Lubrication Jet. Both types are constructed entirely from stainless steel for compatibility with most industrial and aerospace liquids. Both incorporate the unique installation and retention principle used in the already proven and qualified Lee valves and restrictors. Their small size and light weight make them extremely cost effective.

All Lee nozzles can be installed in any attitude; you simply install the insert in a reamed hole, and lock and seal it by pressing the pin in the insert. This easy installation eliminates costly assemblies, seals, and threads, yet the nozzles can be readily removed whenever necessary. Lee nozzles are the most compact, economical, and reliable nozzles available anywhere.

Lee Spin Jet : Lee Spin Jets utilize unique vortices and flow passages to provide a finely atomized hollow cone spray pattern. When used with most normal fuels, Spin Jets produce a 70° cone angle spray with differential pressure in the 50-200 psi range. With liquids having surface tension in the 0.002-0.005 lb./ft. range, the droplet size is typically less than 150 µm. Four convenient part numbers, spanning the range from 6000 to 18,000 Lohms, are available, each with a safety screen to protect against rogue particles. The recommended maximum service temperature is 700°F (371°C), and for continuous service is 400°F (204°C).

Lee Lubrication Jet : Lee Lubrication Jets generate a straight, well-defined stream of fluid to a predetermined target with differential pressures of 10 to 200 psid. These units are ideal for directing streams of lubricating oil at critical bearings, or cooling oil at meshing gears, or fuel at the inside of vaporizing tubes in aircraft combustion chambers.The recommended maximum temperature for using Lee Lubri-cation Jets containing integral safety screens is 700°F (371°C) short term, and 400°F (204°C) for continuous service.

Lee Chek : The Lee Chek is offered in three basic configurations:

• 0.187 and a 0.250 inch diameter axial flow ball-type designed for 3000 psi systems and available screened and unscreened, forward and reverse
• 0.093, 0.187 and a 0.343 inch diameter with convenient side exit porting and enhanced silt resistance. The 0.093 inch diameter is available unscreened, with forward flow only for 4000 psi systems. The 0.187 inch diameter is available screened and unscreened, with forward flow only for 4000 psi systems. LO-LOHM CHEKS : Lee Lo-Lohm Cheks are poppet-style, high flow-gain check valves that are wide open at 15 psid, and offer the lowest Lohm rate. They come in 0.187, 0.250, 0.375 and 0.500 inch diameters, in both forward and reverse flow directions to meet almost any space requirement. 440C CRES versions are available for all sizes. Screens are available on the 0.187 inch. These miniature all-metal checks are rated for 3000 psi system pressure (except the 0.187 inch and the 0.250 inch 440C model which are rated for 4000 psi systems).

Hi-Q CHEKS :Lee Hi-Q Chek valves offer the greatest feasible flow capacity for valve cartridges between 1/2 and 1 inch in diameter. The valves feature a unique cage and poppet assembly that maximizes flow capacity at an effectively low cost. A robust design and 100% performance testing ensures consistent, long term performance in 4000 psi systems.

HIGH PRESSURE CHEKS : Lee High Pressure Cheks are poppet-style valves for up to 8000 psi systems. They are offered in six sizes, starting with the micro-miniature 0.125 inch diameter, up through the 0.500 inch diameter. The 0.156 inch diameter model is available in a forward flow direction. All other sizes are available in both forward and reverse flow directions. Screens are available on the 0.125 inch diameter and the 0.187 inch diameter valves. NACE compliant versions of the High Pressure Cheks are a perfect solution for applications in the harsh environments found in the oil tool industry. Available in 0.125, 0.187, 0.250, 0.375 and 0.500 inch diameters, these valves are designed to check pressures up to 15,000 psid.

PILOT OPERATED CHEKS : The Lee Pilot Operated Chek is an all metal, pressure piloted to open check valve. It is a 0.250 inch diameter, poppet-style valve designed for 3000 psi systems.

187, 250 and 281 PRI : The 187, 250 and 281 PRI Valves are specifically designed to be the smallest valves available for safety relief applications. The valves are constructed entirely of stainless steel and are available screened and unscreened for design flexibility. Built-in damping assures quiet operation. The 281 PRI is also available in a zero leak model. The 187 PRI is the smallest relief valve, only three sixteenths of an inch in diameter and a little over a half inch long, covering cracking pressures from 20 to 100 psid. The 250 PRI and the 281 PRI covers cracking pressures from 80 to 3600 psid. Cracking pressures for the 281 Zero Leak PRI are from 800 to 4700 psid.

375 and 500 Momentum PRI : The 375 and 500 Pressure Relief Valves use the patented “momentum free” design concept. The unique design compensates for momentum forces that upset the normal force balance of a direct acting valve. These forces are produced by local pressure gradients caused by changes in liquid velocity. (See Momentum Forces). The result is a valve that is both linear and stable throughout the operating range and has low hysteresis, yet is still miniature. The 375 PRI has full open flow capacity of 100 Lohms and the 500 PRI has a 50 Lohm capacity. Both are available in standard cracking pressures from 50 to 500 psid.

281 and 375 High Pressure PRI :The High Pressure PRI is designed for pressure relief service where operating pressures and pressure spikes are too severe for conventional safety relief valves. These conditions, when encountered by conventional valves can lead to instability, erosion and other damaging phenomena The 281 High Pressure PRI is designed to overcome such problems by utilizing a special poppet design in conjunction with a rugged seat design.

The 375 High Pressure PRI is a relief valve designed for optimal performance in applications with high backpressure. This relief valve has shown stable relief flow performance in applications with backpressures up to 850 psig. It features a durable tungsten carbide ball with the remaining components constructed entirely of stainless steel. Available in forward and reverse relief flow directions, the 375 High Pressure PRI offers a range of cracking pressures for 3000, 4000 and 5000 psi systems with system peak pressures up to 6750 psi.

281 NACE Compliant PRI :The 281 NACE Compliant PRI is made with materials specifically chosen for optimal performance in harsh duty applications, such as those in the oil tool industry. This high speed, direct acting valve is constructed entirely of corrosion-resistant materials that are compliant with NACE specification MR0175/ISO 15156. A screened and unscreened model is available for system pressures up to 3000 psi. A high pressure screened model is also available for system pressures up to 5000 psi.

Hi-Q Pressure Relief Valve :The Hi-Q Pressure Relief Valve, sometimes referred to as an LRU (Line Removeable Unit), is designed for applications that require both a high relief pressure and a high flow rate in a compact package. The valve is capable of relief pressures up to 5400 psid and flow rates over 19 GPM. The valve utilizes a side inlet flow path to help minimize the installation boss size and weight.

375 PRI/Chek : The 375 PRI/Chek Valve combines the function of a pressure relief valve in parallel with a check valve into one easy to install insert. The valve is available in a range of relief flow cracking pressures for system pressures up to 5000 psi.

187 TRI and 250 High Pressure TRI :The Lee TRI has been designed to relieve fluid pressure caused by thermal expansion. When a sealed container is completely filled with fluid, thermal expansion can cause container rupture or seal failure. The Lee TRI eliminates this hazard. Because many systems need to relieve only a few drops of fluid to return to their design pressure, the Lee 187 TRI has been optimized for relieving small flows. A high Lohm rate restrictor is used in series with a relief valve to limit the flow rate. This restricts the flow rate sufficiently to ensure shut off above system pressure. An advanced technology ceramic ball and seat material provides the toughness and dimensional stability needed for a tight shutoff. The incorporation of an integral 15µm CRES filter upstream of the valve seat solves the low flow contamination problem. The Lee TRI is not recommended for general pressure relief service. Excess total flow through this valve may cause clogging of the integral filter.
Lee also offers a 250 High Pressure TRI that is a blend of the 281 High Pressure PRI and 187 TRI technologies. This valve is intended for thermal relief applications where the thermal relief valve will experience severe pressure spikes or pressure change rates in excess of 25,000 psi per second. The valve's tight hysteresis and rugged design make it the preferred selection for these types of applications.

SELECTING A RELIEF VALVE: Lee relief valves come in a wide range of styles. Each style has been developed to satisfy specific relief needs commonly found in hydraulic systems. These may vary widely from the intermittently exercised safety “pop-off” application, to the continuously running pressurizing valve or the special requirements relieving a few droplets of oil from a trapped volume being heated. Since these applications are very different, it is important that the correct valve is selected to ensure proper functioning of the system. This introduction will help you to make that selection.

SELECTION CRITERIA: Preliminary selection criteria are the Lohm rate at the “flow-point” (calculated from the flow and differential pressure using the Lohm law) and the cracking pressure. Use the chart below to find the valve types with a suitable range of cracking pressures. Then choose a valve type with a Lohm rate lower than the calculated number.

Lee Shuttle Valve :
The Lee Shuttle Valve is offered in four configurations. One type is the spring biased shuttle valve with the emergency port normally closed. Another type is the detented shuttle valve where the poppet latches to close off either the emergency port or the normal port. Also there are selective shuttle valves with a non-biased, loose ball design. Finally there are inverse shuttle valves where the lower pressure inlet port is open to the common port instead of the higher pressure inlet port.

Lee Shuttle Valves are designed to isolate the normal from the emergency hydraulic system during normal operation. When pressure is lost in the normal system and emergency pressure is applied, the poppet shuttles across to block the normal port allowing flow to the cylinder. Lee Spring Biased and Detented Shuttle Valves are of the "non-interflow" type, which means the normal port closes before the emergency port opens. At no time are all 3 ports open simultaneously. The interflow leak is limited to less than 3 mL per cycle permitted by MIL-V-19068. The requirement for this valve is commonly found in aircraft landing gear hydraulic systems shown in a typical circuit.

Lee Shuttle Valves are miniature inserts that are so small, they fit right in the head of an actuator. This saves space and weight, and protects them from external physical damage. With direct communication from the "S" port into the actuator, without external plumbing, common mode failures are virtually eliminated.

As with all Lee inserts, they require no O-rings or elastomeric seals. Since the shuttle valve is a three port insert, an additional seal beyond the normal locking end is required. The "nose seal" works in the same manner as a locking end except a tapered section of the insert body acts as the tapered pin. The nose seal rests on a 45½ shoulder and is expanded as the body is pressed down into the installation hole.

Some sizes of the spring biased shuttle valves are available with filter screens which prevent large contaminants generated in the actuator from getting into the valve or the hydraulic system.

FLANGE MOUNTED : This is perhaps the most common installation technique as it is simple and economical.

BOSS MOUNTED : A common installation technique that permits removal. Some form of anti-rotation locking is recommended.

INSERT RETAINED : Utilizing the proven Lee Insert Principle, this technique is ideal for simple installation directly into a fluid passageway.

L - 4: Featuring three locking fingers that are expanded outward locking the screen in a fluid passageway, the L- 4 technique permits easy removal for inspection or cleaning. Ideal for bidirectional flow.

SPRING RETAINED : An inexpensive mounting technique suitable for unidirectional flow. The spring O.D. is slightly larger than the I.D. of the mounting hole. A special tool is used to twist the spring into the hole.

TWIS® : Easily removable, the "TWIS" style of installation is readily twisted in or out of the bore for inspection or cleaning. Unidirectional flow.

BOSS ACCESS : A convenient mounting technique that permits easy removal for cleaning or inspection.

HI-BAR SCREENS IN ADAPTERS : Often used as inlet screens to actuators, optimizing space and weight. Available in AS-Straight Thread and Ring Locked style adapters complete from The Lee Company.

The Lee Miniature Piloting Solenoid Valve was designed and developed for use in aerospace hydraulic and fuel systems, oil tool applications, and other challenging high pressure applications. Incorporating innovative design and advanced technology, it has set a new benchmark in space and weight savings and power consumption. The lightest version weighs under 0.14 lbs. (2.3 oz.) and uses only 7.8 watts at 28 Vdc. Each subcomponent and manufacturing process has been optimized to ensure a design with the highest performance, longest life, and highest reliability - all within the smallest envelope possible.

Magnetic Circuit : Extensive use of magnetic finite element analysis has resulted in a low power consumption solenoid force motor with an unusually flat force/stroke relationship. This ensures positive "Pull-In" even under the worst case conditions of degraded supply pressure and high ambient temperature, while also exceeding a stringent minimum "Drop-Out" specification.

Hydraulic Pilot Valve : The miniature valve element is based on the proven low-leakage, high reliability designs, used extensively in Lee check and shuttle valves. The valve is protected by an integral safety screen (hole size .004 inches), and has demonstrated consistent performance over 2,500,000 cycles during qualification testing.

LEE MultiSeal : The MultiSeal is a new sealing concept based on the controlled expansion of a cylindrical polyamide-imide sealing element, eliminating conventional O-Rings and Anti-Extrusion Rings. The MultiSeal radically simplifies port layout, offers significant space savings, reduced machining costs and higher reliability than traditional sealing methods. To meet the rigorous demands of the aerospace industry, the MultiSeal has completed extensive qualification testing. This included 10,000,000 impulse cycles (0-7500-0 PSI) at 275°F. Full details have been published in SAE paper #912134 "Total Flexibility in Cartridge Valve Porting Through Innovative Sealing Technology".

Standard Designs: Normally closed and normally open, 2 position, 3-way solenoid valves are offered as standard versions in single and dual coil 28 Vdc designs. Each of these are available for 3000 psi, 4000 psi or 5000 psi systems with Lohm rates of 1800 and 2200 Lohms. They are designed for operation at a temperature range of -65°F to 275°F. All versions utilize a threaded captive retainer for easy installation and extraction and have either lead wires or an integral MIL-C-38999 connector.
In addition, 2 position, 2-way high flow solenoid valves are also offered as standard versions. Designed for 3000 psi systems, they have a Lohm rate of 200 Lohms and are available in normally open and normally closed configurations.

Special Designs : The Lee Company also offers special solenoid valve designs for 12 to 50 volt dc nominal systems. Higher pressure versions (greater than 5000 psi) and lower pressure versions (less than 3000) psi are also available, as are versions offering greater flow than the 1800 Lohm piloting designs. Higher temperature solenoid valves operating up to ambient temperatures of 392°F (200°C) can also be supplied. Special solenoid valves can also be supplied for fluids such as fuel and water based control fluids. Other available options include integral diodes and other special connector types.

LHD Sries : Lee’s High Density Interface (LHD Series) Solenoid Valves are designed for applications where space is limited. Featuring small size and light weight without sacrificing performance and reliability, the valves are available in three different styles: plug-in, face mount, and ported. Extended performance versions (Latching, Quiet Operation, Semi-Inert and Lo-Lohm) are also available. These valves are generally used in medical and scientific instrumentation or control applications such as oxygen delivery systems, gas analysis equipment, patient monitors, air calibration devices, ventilators/respirators, gas chromatography and other flow switching devices. Each valve is 100% functionally tested for switching voltage, flow capacity and leakage. The rugged materials used help ensure consistent long-term performance. The valves will typically operate up to 250 million cycles on air, depending on the seal material and application parameters.

Latching Design:The Latching design is optimized for applications that demand ultra-low power and low heat making it ideal for portable, battery powered instruments. The valves require only momentary (10 ms minimum) pulses of current to switch state resulting in 5.5 millijoule per switch. The polarity of the voltage on the terminal pins controls the switched position.

Quiet Operation Design:The Quiet Operation design uses “whisper technology” to achieve patient comfort. A typical solenoid valve has an inherent clicking sound when energized, which is causedby the metal-to-metal contact of the moving armature and stationary core. With “whisper technology” however, actuation noise is significantly reduced, providing a sound level measurement of less than 37 dBA when measured at a distance of 24 inches and a valve cycle frequency of 10 Hz.

Semi-Inert Design:The Semi-Inert design can handle moderately aggressive gases and liquids in a wide range of fluid handling applications. Featuring a superior perfluoro (FFKM) elastomer seal, this design is also compatible with saline.

Lo-Lohm Design:The Lo-Lohm design offers more flow capacity across an extended pressure range without sacrificing size and weight.

LFA Series:The Lee Interface Fluidic (LFA Series) Solenoid Valves offer small size and lightweight, without sacrificing performance. Designed for applications where space is limited, these valves are generally used for medical and scientific applications flowing air or gas, such as blood chemistry instruments, ventilators/respirators, gas analysis equipment, blood pressure monitors and various other flow switching devices.

LFA Series valves are available as a 2-way (normally closed) or 3-way soft tube ported design with two electrical connection options; printed circuit board mount or lead-wires. The following general performance characteristics are offered in this product platform:

VHS Series : The Lee VHS valves are high speed, 2-way solenoid operated valves designed forapplications requiring microliter and nanoliter dispense volumes. These applications include high throughput screening and drug discovery.

LFV Series:The LFV Series is a family of 2-way isolation valves, featuring bi-directional flow and a contoured flow path which allows complete flushing. This contoured flow path also minimizes damage to “delicate” fluids. The small internal volume reduces the amount of fluid needed to fill the system (transport volume) further reducing sample and reagent requirements. LFV valves are optimized for applications in analytical instruments, biotechnology and IVD devices.

LFN Series:The LFN Series Solenoid Valves are 2-way normally closed, diaphragm valves, designed to provide consistent reliable switching in the smallest footprint possible. The small footprint allows a high valve packing density on manifolds. Combining this with the valves’ low internal volume greatly reduces the overall system fluid volume and manifold size.The isolation diaphragm on an inert housing makes these valves suitable for the control of critical and aggressive fluids.

LFN valves feature:

Fixed Volume:

Lee LPL Series solenoid pumps provide accurate, repeatable, fixed volume dispensing in a small lightweight package. A normally closed seat prevents siphoning when the pump is de-energized.

LPL solenoid pumps are ideally suited for applications that require a precise, fixed volume dispense. The pump's accuracy and repeatability eliminate the need for calibration and adjustment.

Variable Volume :

LPV Series pumps are variable volume, positive displacement pumps that featureunparalleled reliability and consistent performance. Their small size, light weight and maintenance free design permit the pumps to be located where the fluidic requirements dictate, regardless of maintenance accessibility. This makes them ideal for replacing conventional syringe and peristaltic pumps. This also allows the pumps to be located on or near the sample arm, further reducing the required transport volume of the system.

Standard LPV Pumps incorporate a stacked can motor, which creates a smaller, lighterpackage. A home sensor is available as an option.

High Performance LPV Pumps use a hybrid stepper motor, which allows smaller dispense increments and higher pressures. Encoders and home sensors are included with these pumps, allowing positive feedback.

High Performance pumps are also available with dual seals. The second seal creates a “flushing” chamber which allows the use of a barrier fluid. Flushing of the piston to prevent build up is also possible
